Pflugerville High School JV Color Guard 2012
(Dubtribe – Sound of Silence [Kendall Clark Remix]) // Panther Band Web Site
This is a remix of the song Sound of Silence by Simon & Garfunkel. I first rearranged the song to fit the winter guard time limitations. I then extracted the vocals and produced an original remix.
Pflugerville High School Color Guard 2010
(Vitamin String Quartet – Paint It Black) // Panther Band Web Site
This is a string quartet cover of the song Paint It Black by the Rolling Stones. Having rearranged this version of the song to fit the allotted time of four and a half minutes, I then added some percussion and other rhythmic tracks to give it a little more drive.
Pflugerville High School Color Guard 2009
(Evanescence – Hello) // Panther Band Web Site
The original version of this song is relatively minimal, consisting of voice and piano, without use of effects. The winter guard show entitled, Someone To Talk To, is the story of a girl who is misunderstood, bullied, and ultimately pushed to the edge of sanity. It aims at revealing some of the darker times of life, reminding the viewer that we all just want someone to talk to.
Having rearranged the original song to fit the allotted time of four and a half minutes, I then took liberty in adding an ambient “scene” for the beginning, all of which I recorded and produced. The piece rises in intensity, adding in percussive layers, and climaxes at an erie “outer-wordly” break, symbolizing the breaking point, and then settles with the resolving note of the melody to end the song.
Westlake High School Color Guard 2009
(Dvorak – Symphony No. 9, movements 3, 2, and 4) // Westlake Chap Band Web Site
The Westlake High School’s show, The Story of the Bluebonnet, follows the old Texas Native American legend of the girl who sacrificed her only possession, a doll, in order to bring rain to her people. The gods then praised the young girl’s actions by rewarding her and her people with the first Bluebonnet.
This piece was interesting to work on in that, because it isn’t pop music, I could easily synch the music to the time grid without some sever audible artifacts. Again the various movements were “comped” into the four and a half minute show time. I then added various desert ambient sounds at the intro, along with a narration of the original story, as well as some excerpts of authentic Native American drumming ceremonies.
Kearney Jr. High Cheer Team 2010
(Enrique Iglesias – I Like It & Far East Movement – Like a G6) // Kearney District Web Site
I produced this fun little piece for the Kearney Jr. High’s 2010 Cheer Team. This project in particular proposed a bit of a challenge because, if you listen to the original version of Like a G6, you will notice that it is not at all school appropriate, and especially not for middle school! So I took liberty with adding various effects and vocal chops until I felt it was appropriate for school use as well as interesting to stunt to.
